Enifer is a Finnish biotech startup based in Espoo, founded in 2020.
The company specializes in producing PEKILO® mycoprotein, a sustainable and high-protein fungal ingredient derived from agrifood industry by-products. Enifer's mission is to transform waste into wealth by upcycling these by-products into nutritious protein, supporting a circular economy. The company is a spin-off from the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and builds on the legacy of the PEKILO® bioprocess developed in the 1970s. Enifer utilizes fungal fermentation to convert waste into high-protein, fiber-rich biomass. PEKILO® mycoprotein contains over 60% protein and has a neutral taste and texture, making it suitable for various food and feed applications. Enifer targets aquafeed manufacturers, pet food producers, and food producers seeking sustainable protein alternatives. The company recently secured a €12 million grant to establish its first commercial-scale mycoprotein factory in Kantvik, Finland.
