CoFOUND

Find the co-founder the company needs.

Not the one you would get on with best at a meetup. CoFOUND matches on the gap first: the role your company is missing, and the role you fill for them. Then on the things that end partnerships early when nobody asks: commitment, place and equity.

The gap finder

What do you bring?

Pick the role you play. The answer is the one investors look for beside it, and why.

Commercialfirst · Sells: sales, partnerships, growthDomain expertthen · Knows the industry from the inside

Most technical founders can build the product. What stalls them is selling it, and knowing the buyer well enough to build the right thing.

The gap

They play a role you need, and you play one they need. This comes first, because two people with the same skills is a team with a hole in it.

Commitment

Full-time now, within three months, or part-time to start. Mismatched commitment is the quiet reason most co-founder pairs split.

Place

The same city, the same country, or both happy to work remotely.

Sector

A sector in common, or one of you open to any.

Equity

What the founder would offer against what the joiner expects, as ranges that overlap or not.

Before you commit

Five conversations to have before anything is signed

  1. 1Why this, why now

What would make you walk away in the first year?

What does success look like in five years, and in one?

  2. 2Roles and decisions

Who decides what, and who breaks a tie?

Who is CEO, and does that change if it is not working?

  3. 3Time and money

When does each of us go full-time, and what if one cannot?

How long can each of us go without a salary?

  4. 4Equity and vesting

How do we split it, and on what basis?

Four-year vesting with a one-year cliff, for both of us?

  5. 5The hard cases

What happens if one of us leaves, or wants to sell?

How do we disagree, and how have you handled it before?

The equity split

Start the conversation from what each person brings

Score each founder from 0 to 5 on what they bring. The split follows from the weights. A starting point to argue about, not an answer.

Questions

Who sees my profile?

Only signed-in members, and only as your first name and initial with your headline. Your email is shown to one person at a time, once you have both said yes to talking. Profiles are never on a public page or in search engines.

How are matches ranked?

On the gap first, then commitment, place, sector and equity, out of 100. Every match shows each part and the reasons, including where you do not fit, so the number is never a mystery.

What does it cost?

Nothing. CoFOUND is free.

Can I pause?

Yes, at any time. A paused profile disappears from everyone's matches until you turn it back on. Profiles with no visit for four months stop being shown.

What if someone behaves badly?

Report them from their card. They are hidden from you straight away and an editor looks at it.

Is the equity calculator advice?

No. It is a way to start the conversation from what each person brings, rather than from a number someone heard. Agree vesting, and take legal advice before you sign anything.
