Material Gate is a deep-tech startup spun out of Hiroshima University, building a new materials platform for the post-Moore era.
Our core innovation is Single-Molecule Electrets (SME), the only material in the world that exhibits ferroelectric behavior at room temperature within a single molecule. This fundamentally new mechanism breaks away from conventional ferroelectric theory and opens a path beyond the scaling limits of existing materials. SME enables extreme miniaturization of semiconductor memory while delivering over 90% reduction in power consumption, addressing one of the most critical bottlenecks in AI, edge computing, and data-centric systems. Memory no longer has to constrain performance, scale, or energy efficiency. Beyond memory, SME is a versatile materials platform applicable to sensors, actuators, capacitors, and energy-related devices, enabling smaller form factors, lower power, and reduced environmental impact. By eliminating high-temperature processing, SME also unlocks more sustainable manufacturing processes with lower energy demand and CO2 emissions. Material Gate bridges world-class fundamental research with real-world deployment. We work with partners to translate breakthrough materials into scalable devices and next-generation industries. We believe materials shape the future of technology. At Material Gate, we are building that future, molecule by molecule. Unlocking the potential of matter. One technology. Endless applications.
