HyImpulse is a German private space launch company based in Neuenstadt am Kocher.
Founded in March 2018 as a spin-off from the German Aerospace Center, the company focuses on developing compact orbital launchers and sounding rockets using a unique hybrid propulsion system that combines paraffin-based fuel with liquid oxygen. This technology aims to provide a safer, more cost-effective, and flexible alternative to traditional rocket engines. The company is working on several key projects, including the SL1 (Small Launcher 1), a three-stage orbital launcher designed to carry up to 500 kg into Low Earth Orbit, with the first launch expected in 2025. HyImpulse also offers sub-orbital sounding rockets that can reach speeds of Mach 5 and carry payloads of approximately 350 kg to altitudes of 200 km. Additionally, they provide integrated space services, including satellite-as-a-service and space-data-as-a-service, catering primarily to the commercial small satellite market, research institutions, governmental agencies, and the B2C sector in aerospace, maritime, and defense technology.
