GoFetch is a research initiative focused on exploring a unique microarchitectural side-channel vulnerability in modern CPU architectures, specifically targeting data memory-depende
nt prefetchers (DMPs). This project highlights how DMPs, which are designed to enhance CPU performance by predicting data fetching, can be exploited to leak sensitive cryptographic information. The research team comprises academic experts from various prestigious institutions, including the University of Illinois and Carnegie Mellon University. As a proof-of-concept attack framework, GoFetch does not offer commercial products but provides open research artifacts for further study. These include an attack framework, proof-of-concept exploits for various cryptographic primitives, and DMP analysis tools. The project aims to inform CPU vendors and software developers about the security implications of DMPs, offering insights and educational resources on side-channel mechanics and mitigation strategies. GoFetch serves the global cryptography and hardware security community by raising awareness of potential vulnerabilities in systems utilizing DMP-equipped hardware.
