CinemaNow was an over-the-top (OTT) video-on-demand and streaming media company founded in 1999 and based in Los Angeles/Marina del Rey, California.
It was a pioneer in online film distribution, initially launching as a pay-per-view streaming service and later evolving into a digital storefront for premium film and television content. The platform allowed consumers to buy, rent, and stream movies and TV shows from a large digital library. At its peak, CinemaNow's catalog included approximately 55,000 titles, featuring a diverse range of content such as feature films, short films, music concerts, and TV programs. The service supported on-demand streaming, rental, purchase, and, at times, subscription or ad-supported access. CinemaNow partnered with numerous content licensors and studio partners, including major names like Disney, Warner Bros., and Paramount Pictures. It was accessible on various devices, including Roku, Chromecast, PlayStation, Xbox, and smart TVs. CinemaNow ceased operations in August 2017 after being acquired by FilmOn in 2016.
