Mountaintop Studios was an independent game studio founded in 2020 by Nate Mitchell and Matt Hansen.
Based in San Francisco, California, with additional operations in Los Angeles, the studio was composed of industry veterans from major gaming companies. It raised approximately $65.5 million in funding, including a $30 million Series A in 2021. The studio developed a free-to-play tactical shooter called Spectre Divide, which featured a unique "two-body" mechanic for gameplay. The game aimed to attract players who enjoy competitive multiplayer experiences. Unfortunately, Mountaintop Studios closed in March 2025, just six months after launching Spectre Divide, due to challenges in achieving sustainable player engagement and revenue.
