About Kimono Labs

Kimono Labs was a web data extraction company based in San Francisco, founded in 2014 by Pratap Ranade and Ryan Rowe.

The company was part of Y Combinator and developed software that transformed websites into structured, machine-readable data without the need for coding. Its main product was a bookmarklet and Chrome extension that allowed users to select information from webpages and convert it into APIs, CSV files, and JSON data. This tool simplified the process of web scraping, enabling developers, data scientists, and businesses to access data from sites lacking an API through a user-friendly point-and-click interface. Kimono Labs gained a user base of over 125,000 before its acquisition by Palantir in 2016, after which the standalone service was discontinued.
