BlogTalkRadio was a pioneering web-based platform that operated as the world's first social radio network from August 2006 until its closure on January 31, 2025.
Founded by Alan Levy, the platform enabled individuals, companies, and organizations to host live, interactive internet talk radio shows using just a telephone and an internet connection. It provided a comprehensive suite of services, including live broadcasting, podcast creation, content distribution, and monetization tools. The platform featured a web-based studio that allowed multi-participant broadcasts and automatically archived live shows into podcasts. BlogTalkRadio attracted a diverse user base, including individual broadcasters, major brands like Ford and PepsiCo, and government entities such as the Pentagon. At its peak, it supported over 15,000 registered hosts and reached 40 million monthly listeners. The company underwent several corporate transitions, merging with Spreaker in 2017 and eventually becoming part of Triton Digital.
