Battlesnake

Battlesnake is a startup based in Victoria, British Columbia, that offers a competitive multiplayer programming platform.

Developers can create web servers to control autonomous snakes in esports-style coding tournaments. The core product, the Battlesnake game, provides an open-ended environment where code acts as the controller for a snake bot, which must find food and survive in real-time battles. The platform features a global online competitive league with tens of thousands of developers participating in tournaments. It serves as a tool for skill-building, algorithm practice, and experimenting with new programming languages and tech stacks. Additionally, it is used for technical recruitment events, allowing companies to assess coding skills. The game engine and rules are open-source, enabling community contributions. Founded in 2015, Battlesnake has evolved from a regional coding competition to a global platform and was acquired by Taplytics in March 2023.
